After playing professionally for 12 years, I understand how important strength and mobility are to maintaining your golf game. I needed a program that was structured, efficient, and easy to follow so I could stay consistent despite a busy schedule.

After only a few weeks of following Matt’s program I felt stronger and more athletic. He helped me maintain the physical strength and athleticism I needed to continue competing and enjoying the game.

Training gave me confidence that I was doing what I needed to physically support my golf game. If you’re serious about playing your best golf for years to come, having a structured program is worth it.

Working with Matt made me understand that taking care of my body isn’t just about getting stronger... it’s about mobility, stability, and movement quality because thats everything in the golf swing.

Matt is extremely knowledgeable and very personable. He understands my goals as a competitive golfer, my body, my injury history, and what we’re trying to accomplish long term. You know he genuinely cares because how you feel after training is a reflection of the work he did with you.

We aren’t just doing exercises because they’re difficult or because they’re popular. Everything connects back to how my body moves, what I need for golf, where my weaknesses are, and what will help me perform. He looks at the entire athlete rather than just putting together a workout.

Matt has helped bridge that gap between what I want my swing to do and what my body is capable of doing.

I first started training with Matt Wilkins in seventh grade when I was still a baseball player, and he has been a huge part of my development as an athlete and my transition into competitive golf.

What has always separated Matt is how invested he is in understanding exactly what I need as a golfer, rather than simply making me stronger in the gym. He took the time to come to lessons with my swing coach so they could work together as a team. My coach was able to show Matt where I had physical limitations and how those limitations were affecting my swing, and Matt would take that information into the gym and build our training around improving those specific areas.

As I became stronger, more mobile, and more stable, I was able to make movements in my swing that I physically couldn’t make before, helping me become a better golfer while also reducing my risk of injury.

Matt has also been there for me through every injury and every step of the rehab process. His goal was never just to get me healthy enough to play again, he made sure I came back stronger, more durable, and better prepared than I was before.

Through years of training, injuries, setbacks, and development, Matt has played an enormous role in shaping me as both a golfer and an athlete. There is no way I would be the player or athlete I am today without him and everything he has invested in my development.

The Athlete First Training Methodology

The golf fitness industry is plagued by performative exercises and coaches who program for social media likes, not on-course performance.

Have you ever seen a video of a player balancing on a ball with an array of bands pulling in different directions? Maybe a weight or two sprinkled in? That does absolutely nothing.

I believe the key to training for golf is to stop treating players like golfers and start treating them like Athletes first.

A powerful, fast, and efficient golf swing is predicated on 5 things:

  1. Mobility that can be accessed in good golf positions.

  2. Strength that generates force from the ground up.

  3. Athleticism to turn that strength into rotational power.

  4. The core stability to maintain body control while transferring that power into clubhead speed.

  5. The neurological skill to put it all together in a repeatable pattern.

Through my program you will build strong foundational athleticism that can then be molded and transferred into a fast, efficient golf swing.

I have done it time and time again with players ranging from professionals to juniors. As an athlete first you will have all the tools to produce a golf swing that will serve you for the rest of your career.

You’re going to feel better. You’re going to move better. You’re going to play better. And your playing partners are going to hate it.

How the process works

A note on where we train

I train clients out of WAR Fit in Little River. It's a working gym so there are other people training, and sometimes a class running. It is not a private facility.

What you're paying for is a professionals undivided attention for a full hour, a program built specifically for you, and the confidence of knowing that the effort you put in will make a difference. Not marble locker rooms (although there is a shower).

If a quiet, private setting matters to you, tell me on the call and we can try to schedule in the less-busy hours of the gym.

Working independently since 2017, Matt has provided sport performance and sports medicine services to professional athletes across the PGA, NBA, NFL, MLB, IndyCar, Olympic competition, kite-surfing, dance, and more. He has also been a featured 1-on-1 coach for Fortune 500 executives, musical artists, and entrepreneurs, including concierge and travel-based training/treatment across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Having had surgery for a herniated disc at a young age that prevented him from playing impact sports, he found a passion for the game of golf. An avid player himself he knows the demands of the sport and has crafted his training methodology to treat golfers like they should: as Athletes first.

Golfers are unique athletes because out of all the different sports I’ve worked with, they are the most dedicated to improvement and receptive to change.

Being a golfer myself, there’s no better feeling than to help someone get back out on the golf course and playing the way they want to play. Because I know what that feels like. I know what it’s like to be injured, I know what it’s like to not be performing the way you want, and I also know what it’s like to overcome those obstacles and go out and shoot a good score.

When we work together, you’re not just getting a coach. You’re joining a team. My network, my knowledge and skills, the educational component of performance, it’s all part of an impact that will be felt for as long as you continue to play.

INSTRUCTORS & PARENTS AGREE…

“Matt’s coaching has not only helped our students perform physically but also mentally. On the course they are more fit, have more awareness of their body through their swing and have more stamina. Mentally our players are more motivated to be fit, flexible and prepared to play golf.

The communication skills he has as a coach allows the student to perform flawless athletic movements and actually get better.

I would highly recommend anyone in the golf industry to work with Matt for his experience & attention to detail!”

“We wanted to make sure our son’s training was as organized and structured for maximum benefit the same way his practice was for golf. We started Matt’s program in 7th grade so he could improve his fitness, strength and athleticism. Since we started he’s won the Rhode Island Junior Invitational and got recruited to play collegiate golf.

Matt brings so much knowledge, experience and credibility to his work. But most of all he brings a passion that is evident in every session.

Any parent who is serious about performance and having their child achieve their maximum potential would be well served by putting their child's training program in Matt's extremely capable hands.”
